13 Aug Work Comes Before the Reward – 8/13/20
2 Timothy 2:6 – “It is the hard-working farmer who is to have first share of the crops. ”
Work comes before the reward. Whatever we hope to reap, we must sow first. Most of the time it isn’t easy and a lot of the time it isn’t glamorous. But God doesn’t promise us simplicity and the good life. He does promise us suffering for His sake. Why can we rejoice in that? Because we are “strengthened by the grace that is in Jesus Christ.” (vs 1.) No matter the work, no matter the circumstance, no matter the suffering, we who are in Christ are strengthened each day by His grace to do the work He has called for us. Do the work here on earth, knowing that the greatest reward will be found in Heaven.
God, thank you that we are strengthened by the grace that is in your Son Jesus. Thank you for entrusting us to share in your suffering and do the work that you have designed and called for each of us. May we be a church that would be the hardworking hands and feet of Christ taking the gospel to dark and hard places around our city. Amen.
