16 Dec While I’m Waiting – 12/16/20
Habakkuk 3:16 – “I heard and my heart pounded, my lips quivered at the sound; decay crept into my bones, and my legs trembled. Yet I will wait patiently for the day of calamity to come on the nation invading us.”
Has your heart ever pounded at the sound of trouble? Or your whole body felt stiff and cold when you hear something unsettling? This was Habakkuk’s response to the Lord warning him of the trouble that was to come, not only for those who don’t believe, but for the church of Christ too. Jesus doesn’t promise us a life full of happiness, free of trials, but He does promise to stand by us through hard times and offers us a hope that has conquered the world.
We see here that Habakkuk’s emotions take over, just like ours do from time to time. We shouldn’t push those feelings aside or try not to feel them. but immediately lay them at the feet of Jesus – where our help comes from. No one can add to his/her life by worrying, so waiting patiently is our best option. The Lord promises to renew our strength when we wait on Him.
Lord, help us to take our thoughts captive and submit our emotions to your Spirit. When life looks dark, pull our hearts closer to Yours and remind us that any amount of light can put out darkness. May we be patient people that seek Your face and wait on Your deliverance. Amen.
