18 Apr We Are Free – 4/18/20
Proverbs 6:16-19 – “There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.”
If you are anything like me; you might be feeling the weight of staying at home all day. I have found myself saying, “I feel like my freedoms are taken away because I have nowhere to go.” Our daily routine and structure have been flipped upside down and, at times, it seems like idleness is lurking just around the corner. When we become idle, the enemy has a greater chance to cause us to stumble into temptation. Proverbs 6: 16 – 19 talk about things the Lord hates: arrogance, lying, murder, wickedness, engaging temptations, baring false witness, and creating conflict. In a nutshell – the Lord hates sin.
When you are feeling yourself starting to pick up old, sinful habits because you can’t seem to find something else to do; take heart and remember that we are free in Christ. Although we may feel like we are not physically free during a quarantine; remember we are free in Christ. I encourage you, brothers and sisters, to remember that it is Christ who has given you freedom from the sins of verses 16 – 19 and the freedom to pursue Him fully every day. Whom the Son sets free is free indeed.
- Pray that we can trust in the freedom of Christ’s blood and our lives will look different because of this. Pray that we will not fall into temptation during our quarantine, but that we will pursue the Lord.
- Pray that our church will continue pouring into one another’s lives and holding each other accountable.
- Pray that families in Falls Church who have not received true freedom from Christ will come to know Him and accept His gift of forgiveness and salvation.
