The Trap of Comparison – 6/29/20

Noah McLeroy

Galatians 5:26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

Comparison is a trap. Socially, economically – even spiritually – we can fall into comparing ourselves with the broken standard of a fallen world. If Jesus becomes our standard, the less we are impressed by man and the more we become impressed by His glory. Think about it – how can we “stir up one another to love and good works” if we are constantly evaluating where we stand between those around us? In plenty and in need, there is a contentment solely found in Christ that pushes us deeper into love for both God and His people.

Prayer Points

  • Thank God that He is the perfect standard of goodness.
  • Ask God to open your eyes to the different ways you might fall into comparison.
  • Pray that God would fill you with contentment regardless of your circumstance.
