The Lord’s Covenant – 7/7/20

Malachi 3:6  For I the Lord do not change; therefore you, o children of Jacob, are not consumed

In the Old Testament’s final passages, God, through Malachi, tells a discouraged and disobedient people the Messiah’s arrival on the day of the Lord is coming.

Malachi adds, because the Lord is faithful and constant to his earlier covenants, he will save his people instead of condemning—or consuming—them.

  • The Lord who cast Adam and Eve out of Eden is the Lord who will welcome us into heaven.
  • The Lord who exiled his people to Egypt and Babylon is the Lord who rescued and blessed them.
  • The Lord who demands obedience is the Lord who grants grace and forgiveness.

Gracious God, thank you for your constancy. Strengthen us to be faithful as you are faithful, forgive us for the sins we commit against you and others, guide us and strengthen us to live according to your everlasting and never-changing Word and nature.
