The Gift of Faith – 7/3/20

Ephesians 2:8-10   For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

Faith is made available by the work of Jesus. The reason this is so necessary is because “none is righteous, no, not one, no one understands; no one seeks after God” (Romans 3:10-11). We simply cannot earn God’s favor or work our way to Him. We are not righteous.

Therefore, Jesus takes our place and supplies what is lacking, “for our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Corinthians 5:21).

He works, both in living a perfect life and then taking on all our sins in death, to supply the payment necessary for sin and the requirement of perfect righteousness to enter into God’s presence.
