17 Aug Remember Jesus Christ – 8/17/20
2 Timothy 2:8 – “Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, the offspring of David, as preached in my gospel,”
Looking at the preceding passage, it makes sense that Paul is calling for Timothy to remember Christ. For Timothy to “think over” what Paul has said from verse 7 in order to gain understanding, Timothy has to go to the heart of the soldier, athlete, and farmer metaphors. That heart is remembering Christ and His victory over death. Paul also builds upon the credibility he establishes in v2. Jesus was not just any man, but a descendant of King David, who was told by God through the prophet Nathan in 2 Samuel 7 that his “throne shall be established forever.”
Lord, I pray that in my attempt to understand anything in this world, whether it is theology, the pandemic, my job, suffering, or anything else, that my heart would remember Christ and remember the credibility of His Gospel.
