Planted and Prosperous – 4/2/20

Isaiah 61:3 – “that they may be called oaks of righteousness”

What are some of the first words that come to mind when you think of oaks or trees? A few for me are – Firm, Growth, Producing, Established, Planted, Rooted, Sturdy, Dense, and Lasting.
In the previous lines of this verse we see all that God will do to restore His people (beauty for ashes, joy for mourning, praise for despair). The result of this restoration is for them be called oaks or trees of righteousness.

Two things stand out when I think about this verse:

1. The result. When God moves and brings restoration we can expect to become ‘Oaks of Righteousness’ or to use some of our words from above – firm, growing, distinguished, rooted, sturdy, lasting righteousness.

2. The result of God’s restoration doesn’t just stay with us or stay hidden, but it is seen and spoken of by others. It influences others. When God plants and establishes, it is not only good for you but also those around you.

Prayer Points

  1. Pray that Citylight would truly be full of ‘Oaks of righteousness’ in our community. We pray that we will be firm, growing, rooted, and lasting people of righteousness.
  2. Pray that we wouldn’t keep that to ourselves. But that those who are far from God in our community, will not just see but also speak of, firm, growing, rooted, established, lasting righteousness when they think of Citylight Church.

“that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” – Matthew 5:16.
