14 Sep Occupied by the Word – 9/14/20
Acts 18:5 – “When Silas and Timothy arrived from Macedonia, Paul was occupied with the word, testifying to the Jews that the Christ was Jesus.”
Often our problem is that we are occupied with a word but not The Word. And we have allowed a word spoken to us or over us or about us to define us without ever hearing from The Word.
“You are not good enough, you are not valuable, you will never be ____, you are just a ____, you didn’t get the job or promotion, you didn’t get into this school, no i won’t date you, this isn’t working out, the cancer won’t go away, the diagnosis isn’t good, I’m leaving you, i don’t love you anymore, and on and on we can go.”
These words occupy us. They take up residency in us. They fill our minds. Today I want to free many of you from the slavery of a word spoken to you or about you. Your life is not defined by a word of men but by the Word of God. I want to show you how valuable and life giving His Word is. You may be completely new to this whole Jesus thing and feel so unstable in life because of the words of men or in your own mind. Maybe you have assumed this whole Bible thing is just a rules and regulations book for a small group of very dedicated religious people. Jesus has a better word for you. This is the good news of the Gospel. He died and rose again to give you a better word, a better occupation, a better identity. You may have been walking with Jesus for a while but have neglected His Word as your real sustenance. By God’s grace I pray that you would be renewed by your desire for the Word of God today.
