18 Aug Not Bound – 8/18/20
2 Timothy 2:9 – “for which I am suffering, bound with chains as a criminal. But the word of God is not bound! ”
Paul reminds Timothy that living out the Gospel can, and should, result in some degree of suffering. Ask yourself: (1) How am I suffering? (2) If I’m not suffering to any degree for Christ, what does that say about my life? It is also interesting how Paul contrasts the credibility and royalty of Christ from v8 with the shame of being chained like a criminal here in v9. It is a reminder that the brokenness of this current world does not always reflect reality. Lastly, even in our limitations, the Gospel cannot be limited because it is the word of the Great I AM (Exodus 3:14).
Father, I pray that we would trust you in the midst of suffering. I pray that your Spirit would guide me and that I would act in a way that results in the honor of suffering for your name.
