11 Dec Lifeless Idols – 12/11/20
Psalm 135:15-19 –
“The idols of the nations are silver and gold,
made by human hands.
They have mouths, but cannot speak,
eyes, but cannot see.
They have ears, but cannot hear,
nor is there breath in their mouths.
Those who make them will be like them,
and so will all who trust in them.
All you Israelites, praise the Lord;
house of Aaron, praise the Lord”
Where are you getting life? Where are you seeking joy, rest, and satisfaction? Where are you finding happiness? This passage is so helpful to help us categorize which are the things that we are seeking life apart from the giver of life. The world praises silver and gold made by human hand, but we have a God enthroned in the heavens looking over the land. The world believes their gods can speak and see, but we have an intimate Father whose promises are a guarantee. The world thinks their gods can hear, but we have a God who is always near – especially to the brokenhearted. God is the fountain of life, and those who trust Him will have life, but those who trust in lifeless idols will be like them (v.18). Let’s praise Him today for this word!
Oh God, cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Ignite our hearts to want more of you, to thirst after you – to drink from the river of your delight!
