02 Nov Let us Rejoice in our Sufferings – 11/2/20
Romans 5:3-5 – “Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us”
Suffering leads to hope. Suffering produces an endurance to press on for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. It produces an endurance to suffer loss, to take criticisms, to reach the lost, to lead with zeal, to wrestle with God, to immerse in His Word, and to exhaust oneself for the sake of people’s souls. Endurance produces a character filled with simplicity and godly sincerity; a character that embraces one’s weaknesses; a character that intimately walks with God; a character that loves patiently, seeks hospitality, flees from sexual immorality, and serves with humility. And character produces an assured hope “because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us” (v.5). It is the hope that helps us live by faith and not by sight.
Therefore, we rejoice in our sufferings!
God help us remember and see what our sufferings are producing in us. May we rejoice in it; may we look to you the founder and perfecter of our faith!
