17 Nov Humility and Trust in God – 11/17/20
Job 40: 3-5 – “Then Job answered the Lord and said: “Behold, I am of small account; what shall I answer you? I lay my hand on my mouth. I have spoken once, and I will not answer; twice, but I will proceed no further.””
These are crazy, unprecedented times. The political division, the riots, the pandemic, the economy… the list goes on. These things are having a tremendous impact on our lives – jobs lost, relationships strained, worries mount. It’s easy to get caught up in the madness and lose sight of Who is really in control.
God spends chapters 38 and 39 reminding Job of who He is and what He has done. This passage is Job’s response – silence. Job is humbled into utter silence.
Instead of getting caught up with the world, let’s learn from Job’s response and stay focused on Jesus. This is not our home. Our citizenship is in heaven. We can take comfort knowing that our God, the Creator and Sustainer of all things, is sovereign over all things, and He reigns supreme. We can rejoice knowing that regardless of what happens, ALL THINGS work together for our good if we love God. (Romans 8:28).
Prayer: God, you are bigger and more powerful than we can even comprehend. You are the Great I AM. You are the King of kings, and Lord of lords. You are fully and completely in control of everything happening in our world and in our lives. I pray that You would convict our hearts of this truth. I pray that You would increase in us, as we decrease. I pray that You would enable us to love You more deeply and more fully each and every day, and to love our neighbors as ourselves. I pray that You help us to keep your commands and to be more like You.
