How Can We Be Kind? – 9/3/20

2 Timothy 2:24 – “And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil…”

In this season of tensions and uncertainty it doesn’t take more than opening the news or Twitter to see fights and quarrels. Sadly, I often find my heart joining in. I am weak, sinful in nature, and it’s just not in my power to live out this verse. So how do I be a good solider and worker of the Lord as the Bible asks? I love how Paul writes earlier in the chapter to, “remember Jesus Christ,” and to, “be strengthened by the grace that is in Jesus Christ.” It is in embracing the truth of the gospel that we are transformed and receive grace in the Spirit to be kind, humble, and patient. The power of God in the gospel is how we live counter culturally in our world, preaching the gospel so that all may hear truth and come to know our God of peace.

Lord, thank you for the truth of the gospel and for how you have revealed it to us. I pray that as we go about our day that your truth would be in us. Help us meditate on your word and that you would strengthen us for every good work. Please give us grace to show kindness and walk in humility. We thank you that it is in Jesus that we can live for your kingdom. We love you. Amen.
