25 Apr Gospel-Centered – 4/25/21
Philippians 1:27-28 – “Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in the one Spirit, striving together as one for the faith of the gospel without being frightened in any way by those who oppose you. This is a sign to them that they will be destroyed, but that you will be saved—and that by God.“
What does it mean to live a Gospel-centered life, as Paul is directing believers in this passage? To live a life consistent and centered with the gospel is to believe in Christ, deny ourselves, and live in full submission and obedience to the Father. We are to live every moment with intentionality toward one goal, giving glory and honor to God. Living a Gospel-centered life does not happen by accident. Christian living is not passive living. We do not go “where the wind takes us.” We are active in deepening our relationship with Him, going where He has called us to go, and entering into the dark and hard places to share the Gospel. In whatever God has called us to and wherever He has called us to go, we are to conduct ourselves in a God-honoring, Gospel-oriented way.
God, we thank you for the life-changing gift that is your Gospel. Strengthen us each day to live Gospel-centered lives. Not for our credit or status, but so that you may be glorified. Let us be a church where the Gospel’s attractiveness is made visible in our daily living to the world around us. Amen.
