GIVE ME JESUS – 3/21/21

Erin Pender

Proverbs 30:8-9 Keep falsehood far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, “Who is The Lord?” Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God.

Our human thoughts can be extremely selfish. I know mine can be. “God, if you give me a raise I’ll trust you even more. I will know that you love me.” Or maybe you’ve prayed something like, “I know you helped me get a car God, but now if you could just help me upgrade my phone….”

Have you noticed yourself becoming dissatisfied in an area that God previously provided for you? It’s easy to get desensitized to our desire of worldly possessions when everyone around us is focused on having the newest, best thing. Whether we are focused on what we don’t have, or what we currently want, the focus on those things is distracting us from what God is doing in our lives presently. We start to seek God’s hand over His face. When we complain about our lack, or boast in our overflow, we forget that only Jesus can truly satisfy. Nothing of this world could ever fill us the way He can.

He wants us to seek first the Kingdom of God, and then anything else (that He sees fit) will be added to our lives.

Prayer:

God, may we always know that you are enough. Let us find satisfaction in all that you are. You are the giver of good gifts, and you take away only when you see fit. I pray that we surrender to Your plan and stay close to your heart, so we can better understand what you are doing and how you are speaking. May we never be anxious, but trust You as our provider, to fill our lives with everything we need. First and foremost, let us realize that we need nothing apart from You. Amen.
