Give Freely – 12/7/20

Erin Pender

Proverbs 11:24 “One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want.”

Would you consider yourself a generous person? Do you give whatever resources you have available? It’s easy to offer up only what is comfortable and hold onto the rest. Let’s consider Proverbs 11:24.

This goes along with a theme Habakkuk chapter 2 that basically hints at the old phrase “what goes around comes back around”. We have a mandate by God to give freely to those in need and offer up whatever resources we have, because they were given to us by God in the first place. When the justice that is only the Lord’s is at hand, we cannot afford to withhold. We will reap everything we sow and be judged according to our actions. All throughout scripture we can see that God doesn’t require qualified people, He needs available and willing vessels. I’m not saying we should overextend and exhausts ourselves, but when we have the means to be generous, we should do it with a glad heart and go the extra mile. We should imitate and represent the character of Jesus.

Prayer:

Lord I pray that as we grow deeper in our relationship with you, we begin to see areas in our life that we can offer up more freely. Help us to stay focused on the main reason we give and serve and offer up ourselves. You alone are worthy of our sacrifice. I pray over each and every heart that is reading this today, that you would fill it to overflowing and remind us that nothing is ours to hold onto. Amen.
