Get Dressed! – 11/8/20

Greg Eissens

Ephesians 6:12-17   – “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, tas shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,”

If you haven’t already felt it lately, let me tell you how the enemy is at work right now. There is so much division, confusion, chaos and destruction in our world and Christians are getting caught in the middle of it all. We may think our struggle is against a person or organization, but our real battle is against the enemy! Ephesians 6:12-17 outlines the way we can fight this battle daily with God.

We encounter so much heaviness throughout the day that we cannot afford to have our guards down. Truth, righteousness, faith, and peace are the holy tools God offers His followers as we fight the corruption of the fallen world we live in. God calls us to put on His armor like we are preparing for battle every single day. When you wake up in the morning, think about putting on this armor like you would get dressed and ready. You can’t go anywhere until you’re dressed; You can’t fight anything without God’s armor! These attributes of God come from abiding in Him and are the result of trusting Him to equip us with everything we need. If we read the word of God and spend time in prayer and worship routinely, we will have the strength to stand firm in our spiritual battles.

Prayer:

God, please give us strength in You alone to be able to recognize that our battles are against powers of darkness and that You go before us in the fight. I pray peace, faith, trust, righteousness and truth would flood our hearts and minds. Let us cling to our salvation in You and not hold onto anger or anxiety. Have your way on earth, and in our lives, as it is in heaven. Amen.
