19 Jun Exhort One Another – 6/19/20
Hebrews 3:13 – “But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called ‘today,’ that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.”
We see in the Old Testament Pharaoh’s heart become hardened toward God – stubborn, arrogant, and unwilling to bend to His will. While I would like to say I have never found myself in a similar condition as a Christian, the truth is that my heart can still be deceived by sin. Despite this tendency, God has graciously surrounded me with individuals who are willing to challenge me in Christ-like love. Being corrected can fracture my pride and view of self – but that’s exactly what I need. I need to have my misconceptions beaten down in order to gain a fuller picture of who Jesus is. Just like Christ challenged the thoughts and actions of His disciples, we are called to warn each other against the strongholds of sin so that we might experience the freedom of the Gospel more abundantly.
Lord, we pray that our church would strive to foster authentic community. We pray that we would walk alongside one another, challenging each other in brotherly love. We pray that our own hearts would be willing to be corrected by fellow believers, even if the other person isn’t “100% correct”. We pray that our hearts would be fully repentant, seeking to turn from the strongholds of sin to your abounding grace.
