Do not quench the Spirit – 7/25/20

1 Thessalonians 5:19 Do not quench the Spirit.

quench (verb): To extinguish (a fire); stifle or suppress (a feeling)

Control is a concept I wrestle with often. I like to have a plan; I like for my life to fall into a rhythm I can anticipate. But often the Lord gently nudges me to see that when I’m trying to take control, I’m building a box around who I am allowing Him to be in my life. I want the Spirit of the Lord to move in and through me, to step out in faith when He prompts rather than stay in the false safety of the life I’ve built.

Lord do not allow my desire for control to quench the work of the Spirit in and through me. Please present opportunities for me this week to step out of my comfort zone and into the work you are doing in our world. Never let us grow comfortable or complacent with the brokenness in our world and in ourselves, but rather, bring us to a place where your peace and power guide us to be your hands and feet.
