Bearing Graciously – 6/8/20

Dale Sutherland

Colossians 3:13 – “bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.

I was a police officer for close to 30 years and arrested thousands of people.  I don’t get upset if the people I arrested say something negative about me or misunderstand me, because that’s expected.  However, it is very hard when I hear negative things from people inside my own family or church.   It is challenging because the people closest to me are supposed to be different; they are not supposed to mistreat me.  We expect our biological and church families to love and accept us.  When these people mistreat us, it is difficult to forgive. When this happens (it happened to Jesus and the Apostle Paul) meditate on Col 3:13 – “bearing graciously with one another, and willingly forgive each other if one has a cause for complaint against another just as the Lord has forgiven you, so should you forgive.”

“Lord please make my heart like yours so I can forgive those who have hurt me and show them the love that I want them to show to me.”
