17 Jun A Salt to the World – 6/17/20
Mark 9:50 – “Salt is good, but if the salt has lost its saltiness, how will you make it salty again? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another.”
Throughout Scripture, context is incredibly important to truly understanding the message, and this verse is a great example of that fact. Salt was often used as a peace treaty between two groups, and this verse seems to be using this as an analogy for our relationships with those around us. Recently, our country has experienced extreme division that has begun to tear apart families, friends, and the nation as a whole. As Christians, we are called to be at peace with one another even in the midst of such unrest. The more we chase after God, the more our behavior will reflect His character. God doesn’t ask us to have peace with others only when they agree with our personal or political beliefs. We have a real opportunity here to show a lost world the love of Jesus through our words and actions. In a divided world, we can stand out as peacemakers who are ultimately driven by a love for Christ and His creation!
“Lord, help us put aside our pride and our desire to be right in all situations. Give us wisdom to sow peace and not division in our social circles, and show us areas where we need to reconcile broken relationships with others.”
